A vertical journey through Glenfiddich's core range revealed how age and cask selection transform the world's most popular single malt.

The evening was structured as a masterclass in maturation. Starting with the 15-year Solera Reserve, we traced Glenfiddich's evolution through the 18-year Small Batch Reserve to the magnificent 21-year Gran Reserva.

The 15 impressed with its solera-vatted smoothness — honey and marzipan in perfect harmony. The 18 stepped up with deeper sherry influence and dried fruit complexity. But the 21 Gran Reserva, finished in Caribbean rum casks, was the evening's undisputed star. Toffee, lime zest, and tropical fruit created a whisky experience unlike anything else in the Speyside canon.

We also explored the IPA Experiment from Glenfiddich's Experimental Series, which divided the room. Some loved the hoppy freshness; others felt it strayed too far from tradition. Such is the beauty of whisky — there's room for both reverence and revolution.

The session reinforced why Glenfiddich remains the world's most awarded single malt: consistent quality, innovative cask management, and a willingness to experiment.

Pairing Highlight

The Gran Reserva's rum cask sweetness paired beautifully with a Padrón 1964 Anniversary.

"The jump from 18 to 21 is remarkable. The rum cask finish on the Gran Reserva is pure genius."

"Even the IPA Experiment has its place. Whisky should be about exploration, not just tradition."
